A few words about me

I'm Simon Olsen, and I have been a digital designer for over 10 years. My focus is on building a web presence, not just a website, for my clients. I've created rich and interesting web content and delivered that content across online advertising and social media for a variety of clients. This is my website.

This is the first time I've ever tried to start a popular hashtag on Twitter. And I really think this is going to help employees from all around the world work together in greater harmony.

I want Twitter users out there to use the hashtag #officeetiquette and let me know about Office Etiquette. The unspoken rules of your working environments. Whether its something that is obvious and practiced often, or something that isn't practiced and should be.

Have you come across the prompt PowerPoint found an error it can't correct. You should save presentations, quit, and restart PowerPoint when you've tried to save your Mac PowerPoint project?

I was using Mac Office 2011 PowerPoint and got this error when trying to save my presentation as a PPTX.

Last Friday I managed to delete ALL of the contacts on my iPhone.

I had a very busy day with some mission-critical tasks to do. When the day ended, I left for an appointment with Ally. After the appointment I was planning to head back in to the city to have a drink with work colleagues.

As I launched the Phone app on my iPhone, I noticed that the Favourites were all displaying phone numbers, no names.

I touched the Contacts icons and my contacts were completely empty.

My friend just got an iPad 2 for her trip overseas. Naturally, I walked her through setting a few things up on it (no good, doing it for her, she'll learn nothing that way!).

She hadn't bought a SIM for it, as she was going on her holiday the following Monday and would get a SIM when she arrived in Europe.

Now in order to do a few things like set up her email and calendar, we needed Internet. I was interested to see if it would connect to the Internet wirelessly without a SIM inserted. Everything else seemed to be working OK, and I didn't have any reason to believe it wouldn't connect. I even asked the question on Twitter.

Ally and I went to have Ally's ultrasound at the 12 week 1 day mark of our pregnancy. We're due on 9th October 2011. Yes, 9/10/11! This is a video of our ultrasound visit.

Check out the 3D and 4D imaging! Amazing stuff. The baby looks massive, but they're only 6.5cm long.

I attended Adobe Refresh 2010 at Sydney's Convention Centre. A little wrap up of what I saw, what I thought, what I liked and my first witness of the "content awareness" in Photoshop.

I tweeted about not being sure if the Content Awareness tool was real, but I was assured it was. If you were at Adobe Refresh Sydney or any of the other Refresh seminars, comment and video respond!

Funny story. So Ally and I are having a BBQ with friends. Ally's best friend's niece, aged two, had a money box.

She's at that age where she is discovering money I guess.

She has been very excited about her piggy bank. And I guess from what happened to Dad's Nintendo Wii, she's also at the age where she is discovering bank transferals.

The blue light emanating from the Wii disc drive, to a two-year-old, must indicated the most irresistible money box in the world!

I've now had the iMac at work and a Mac Book Pro to and from work for about 3 months now, maybe more. Before that I was running a desktop PC with 2GB RAM and 2.45GHz. I hadn't used a Mac since I was at Uni.

I decided that this change was an excellent idea. I did not need a "Hello, I'm a Mac" "And I'm a PC" ad to help me come to this decision. While they are funny and clever, those ads, in my opinion, don't actually explain why Macs are better than PCs. They just point out flaws and misconceptions. Clever, but nasty marketing using cheap shots to sell their products. Not informative.
